Last updated: 03 June 2026  ·  Effective immediately upon registration

This Privacy Policy describes how Omukutu ("we," "us," or "the Platform") collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use our agricultural marketplace platform. By registering or using Omukutu, you agree to the terms of this policy.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

Information you provide: Name, email address, phone number, district/location, role on the platform, and any profile information you choose to add. For businesses, we may collect business name, registration number, and business type.

Verification documents: When you choose to verify your account, you may upload a copy of your National ID, land title, or business registration certificate. These are used solely for identity and business verification.

Transaction data: Records of produce listings, orders, payments, and bookings you make through the platform.

Usage data: How you interact with the platform — pages visited, features used, and time spent. This helps us improve the product.

Device and connection data: IP address, browser type, and device type for security and fraud prevention purposes.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Create and manage your account on the platform
  • Facilitate transactions between buyers and sellers
  • Send you relevant notifications about orders, prices, and advisories
  • Verify your identity and build trust with other users
  • Prevent fraud and ensure platform security
  • Improve our products and services through usage analysis
  • Comply with applicable applicable laws and regulations

We will not use your information for purposes beyond those listed above without your explicit consent.

3. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

We may share information in the following limited circumstances:

  • With other users: Your name, role, district, and listing information are visible to other verified platform users to facilitate transactions.
  • With service providers: We work with trusted technology partners (hosting, payment processing) who process data only as instructed by us.
  • For legal compliance: If required by applicable law, court order, or regulatory authority.
  • Aggregate statistics: We may share anonymised, aggregate data (e.g., total transactions by district) with partners and the public. This data cannot identify you.

4. Data Security

We take the security of your data seriously and implement industry-standard measures including:

  • All passwords are hashed using bcrypt — even Omukutu staff cannot see your password
  • HTTPS encryption on all platform connections
  • Database access restricted to authorised personnel only
  • Regular security audits and monitoring

However, no system is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password and to report any suspicious activity to security@omukutu.ug immediately.

5. Cookies

We use session cookies to keep you logged in while using the platform. These cookies expire when you close your browser or log out. We do not use tracking cookies or advertising cookies.
